Will you join me?

Here's how to help me meet the $50,000 challenge. Pick a not-for-profit organization. Make a charitable gift to that organization between December 28, 2002 and November 30, 2003 for more than you gave to them last year or to a new organization you’ve never given to. I'm counting any increased giving to non-religious 501(c)3 organizations.

It's easy to do

When you make your gift, simply e-mail me what your increased giving was and the name of the organization you donated to. For example: On March 15, 2002 you gave $50 to Save the Whales fund, a 501(c)3 organization. You decide you want to join me on this quest so on February 20, 2003 you give $150 to Save the Whales. You then e-mail me at Dee@MEandV.com that you gave $100 more than last year to Save the Whales fund.

To track the challenge I'm going to keep three independent lists:

1) Who gave
2) What the increased giving amount was
3) The name of the 501(c)3 organization.

You can see that your name won’t be associated with what you gave. It’s not how much you gave that’s important but that you did give more than last year.

Fifty is Nifty Fund

If you prefer, you may make your gift to a new fund I started at our community foundation. The interest off the fund will be used to support the efforts of a youth leadership and philanthropy program called Teen Trust. I can't think of a better way to stay young than to give to youth - especially if it helps develop their leadership skills and their understanding of the importance of charitable giving.

Make your check payable to The Fifty is Nifty Fund and mail to:

Community Foundation of Waterloo/Cedar Falls and Northeast Iowa
500 E 4th St, Waterloo, Iowa 50703

They'll send you a receipt for your taxes and I'll receive the names of the donors and the total amount in the fund.

You can track the $50,000 challenge progress on this specially created Web site here. You can find more information about the Teen Trust fund here.

Let's celebrate

On December 27, 2003, everyone who joined me on the challenge will be invited to my 51st birthday party to celebrate meeting the $50,000 goal. Your increased contribution to a non-profit of your choice - no matter what the size of your increase - is your ticket in.

Giving does feel good and so does turning fifty knowing that we'll be sharing the joy of giving all year long. Thanks for helping me with the $50,000 challenge and thanks from all who will benefit from your generosity.
